Phototherapy is the most frequently used device to treat newborn jaundice babies. 10% of all newborns worldwide require treatment for jaundice to prevent severe brain damage, lifelong disability, and death.

So early recovery of jaundice is required and depends upon the irradiance of light (optimal in the Blue 450–470 nm) exposed on the baby's body surface area and also on the duration of exposure. The most commonly used devices to treat newborn jaundice are fluorescent blue tube convectional lights, halogen lamps, xenon bulbs, and fiber optic blankets. Each of these different device therapies has a number of disadvantages, such as high heat production and unstable wavelength, leading to a decrease in irradiance (approx. 2000 hours maximum). As a result, the device has a very low lifespan and high running cost.

To circumvent this issue, Devay Medical Technologies has developed an innovative long-life (approx. 1,00,000 hours) low-power high-intensity LED-based cool light phototherapy device, which has low running cost and is more efficient. It does not emit Ultraviolet (UV) or Infrared Light, which causes skin damage and hyperthermia. This is a delivery treatment that complies with the American Academy of Pediatrics phototherapy standard — it should be >30 microwatt/cm²/nm.
